For ISPs, Telecoms & Municipalities
Fiber Construction Is Where We Started
FiberNorth was founded in 2011 by the president of an ISP to build the underground infrastructure fiber internet needed in Northern Michigan. It's in the name. Mainline in the county right-of-way, FTTP drops to the meter, blowing and splicing behind the drill. We've been putting fiber in the ground here for over a decade, on builds of every size.
Mainline & Backbone
Long-run directional boring in the public right-of-way for backbone and distribution, with pullback up to 10" product. Five drills, including rigs sized for multi-mile builds, so mainline and drops run at the same time.
FTTP Drops & Laterals
Residential and commercial drops installed clean, under lawns, driveways, and landscaping. Property owners stay on your side, which matters when the next street over is watching your build.
Blowing & Splicing
Fiber blowing equipment for long-distance installs, plus fusion splicing, testing, and repair. The crew that put the duct in the ground can hand you lit fiber.
Right-of-Way & Permits
We work in county road commission right-of-way and utility easements all season, and we handle the permit coordination that goes with it. After more than a decade of working these counties, the road commissions know who we are.
Locating & Hydrovac
MISS DIG 811 compliant on every bore, with a locating specialist on staff. Where existing utilities cross the bore path, our hydrovac exposes them before the drill head gets there.
Year-Round Construction
Frozen ground doesn't stop a directional drill. We keep crews boring through Northern Michigan winters, so your build schedule doesn't lose four months a year.
Fiber Work We've Put in the Ground
A few of the larger builds. More scopes, locations, and photos are on our projects page.
Mesick FTTH Build
145,000 feet of duct installed in three and a half months for a regional network contractor, plus 150+ individual home drops. Every foot GPS-tracked with our Bore-ON system.
Winter Fiber Build
110,000 feet of conduit installed through the winter months for a local internet provider, across Missaukee and Benzie Counties. The schedule held all season.
8-Mile Dual Fiber Backbone
Dual robust fiber networks connecting tribal complexes across the Grand Traverse region for the Grand Traverse Band.
~25 Cell Tower Connections
Fiber connections to approximately 25 cell towers across Northern Michigan for a major carrier.
Grand Traverse Commons FTTP
Fiber to the premises throughout the historic Grand Traverse Commons development in Traverse City.
Resort Campus Fiber
Fiber infrastructure serving WiFi across the condo buildings of the Grand Traverse Resort property.
A Boring Sub Who Understands Fiber
We were built by fiber people, so we know what a make-ready delay costs you, why the drop count matters more than the footage, and what a missed in-service date does to your subscriber commitments. We show up with our own equipment, keep the schedule, and leave property owners happy instead of calling your office. Multi-mile backbone or a neighborhood of drops, one sub covers the bore, the blow, and the splice.
The unglamorous parts are handled too. Permit coordination with the road commission, MISS DIG tickets, easement work where the plat says one thing and the ground says another, and hydrovac potholing wherever the locate marks cross the bore path. You get production footage without the damage claims.
